Imagine what it would like to be a slave in the 19th century before the Civil War. Freedom is so taken for granted by all US citizens these days - but true equal rights for slaves at this time in our history was only a far reaching dream. BELOVED HARRIET is a two person script dialogue with background music recreating the fascinating real life and drama of slaves, Dred and Harriet Scott. Their two law suits were combined into the leading 1857 U.S. Supreme Court case of all time. Despite the Scotts losing their nine year legal battle for freedom and remaining slaves in the eyes of the state of Missouri - a dream actually came true for them when Dred's boyhood friend and master's son, Taylor Blow, purchased a bond for the Scotts' freedom. The freedom bond allowed the Scotts and their children, Eliza and Lizzy, to live free. The Scott v Sanford court case was the last significant legal ruling against slaves prior to the Civil War. This historical fictionalized drama will bring the culture, events and people of that time to real life. Enjoy a step back into pre-Civil War history when slavery dominated substantial aspects of American society.
